Graveside services for Mrs. Iola Powell Abney are scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Mausoleum. Viewing will be held today from 1:00PM to 7:00PM at Goodson Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Abney was a dedicated member of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Abney passed away at Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. She is preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Johnnie Abney, parents Deacon Paul & Victoria Powell; siblings Elnora Ross, Equellia Woods, William Paul Powell, Mattie Toney, Deacon George Powell, Ruby Woods and Charles Powell; and daughter-in-law, Gloria McKinney Abney. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Glenda (Frank) Carlisle, son Derek Abney, Grandchildren: Frank Carlisle, Jr. (Tina), Kevin (Tiffany) Carlisle, Shonika (Prince) Kwarteng, Shamarak (Whitley) Abney, Kristi (Jimmie) Robinson and Kara (Carlton) Phillips; Sisters Julia Johnson and Francella Boyd. She also had 20 great grandkids that were her pride and joy. She also had a host of nieces, nephews, friends and church family. Mrs. Abney was a loving mother, grandmother, grand-grand, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She loved her church dearly. Mrs. Abney was a precious jewel that will truly be missed.
