She left Hamburg in 1855, came to New York, and came to San Francisco via the Isthmus of Panama in 1859, immediately prior to her marriage. In Germany she received a thorough education and acquired a reputation for her skill in nursing. The family moved to Sonoma County, first in Glen Ellen at a place called Wagners villa. Later the family purchased a large ranch at the foot of the Sonoma mountains. After coming to Sonoma County, she never refused a call for sickness or distress, often fording streams during stormy weather. - History of Sonoma County California by Tom Gregory page 559

Mrs. Agnes Schieck Called Home

At an early hour Sunday morning, the death occurred of Mrs. Agnes Schieck, a well known and highly respected pioneer woman of Sonoma County. Mrs Schieck died at the home of her son, Davis Schieck. She was seventy eight years of age and many years of her honored life were spent in this county. She was laid to rest at Mountain Cemetery at Sonoma on Monday afternoon. Mrs. Schieck is survived by her sons, David, Fred and Herman Schieck and has a number of grandchildren and other relatives and many warm friends who mourn her loss.
