17th Virginia Cavalry, Company E. Mustered into service Sept. 6 1862 in Princeton, VA (now WV).
17th Cavalry participated in Battle of Lynchburg, VA, Gettysburg, PA and he was wounded in action at the Battle of Monocacy, MD July 9,1864. 17th Cavalry was positioned at Five Forks VA during the Siege of Petersburg and disbanded after the surrender at Appomattox.

Farmer in Mercer County, WV and killed by a train while moving cattle across N&W tracks. Buried in the Archibald Bailey Cemetery but grave location unknown.
