Came to Pennsylvania from Ulster in 1741. His first wife, Isabella (Potter) Hamilton, mother of his daughter Katherine Hamilton (who married Gen. James Chambers), died upon arrival. He married secondly Jane Allen (in 1748). Capt. John Hamilton "of Fermanagh" (1749-1793) was son of the second marriage.
