US Naval Veteran, Spanish American War and World War One (1894-1915). During the Spanish American War he was an oiler on USFS Olympia, flagship of Commodore Dewey's seven-ship Asiatic Squadron and at the Battle of Manila Bay on May 1, 1898.

He enlisted on November 17, 1894 and served on numerous ships. including USS New Olreans, St. Louis, Helena, Yorktown, Iris, Scandia, New York, Pittsburg, Pensacola, Princeton, Tacoma and Colorado through September 18, 1915 when he retired to the Philadelphia Naval Home where he died in January 1918 at the age of 47.
