Joseph A. "Joe" Fears, a 76 year old resident of Ottumwa, Iowa passed away at 7:19 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2001 at the Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa. Gary Cradie of The Church will officiate Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.. Military services will be conducted by the Walter B. Schafer Post # 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Visitation is in progress at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening ( Friday July 6. 2001)

Mr. Fears was born May 10, 1925 in Harrison County , Missouri, the son of Joseph and Carrie Lee Arnie Fears.He married Wilma McAtee on June 26, 1949. she preceded him in death on April 16, 1991. A resident of Ottumwa since 1953, he had worked for John Deere Ottumwa works for 30 years, retiring in 1983 He had served in the Army during World War 11. He was a member of the Church and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Fears is survived by two sons, Ron Fears of Ottumwa and Bill Fears of Buffalo WY. three grandchildren, three great grandchildren: and one brother Ennis Frears of Ottumwa.

In addition to his wife, Mr Fears was preceded in death by two sisters, Nema Hornick and Florence Wilson and one brother Neal Fears.
