John M. Devaney, Jr. 28 years old of Cambridge, MA. Loving son of John Martin Devaney and Mary (Duffy) Devaney. Beloved wife of Elizabeth (Murphy) Devaney. John also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Jimmy Devaney of Cambridge, Frank Devaney of Cambridge, Sadie Devaney & Mae Devaney of Cambridge, and the late Delia who died in infancy. The following was an article that appeared in the newspaper on Jan 27 1913. John was killed while crossing Mt Auburn St near Willard St in Cambridge at 6:15 last evening, John M Devaney Jr 27 years old of 195 Cambridge St East Cambridge was struck and almost instantly killed by an inward bound electric car. Devaney had just left the Cambridge Hospital where he had been visiting his wife who was to undergo an operation today. He crossed Mt. Auburn St directly after leaving the hospital and at the corner of Willard St. started to recross it. Apparently unaware of the approaching electric car, which ran him down, fracturing his skull,inflicting severe internal injuries and causing almost instant death. Dr. Fred R ? of North Cambridge rushed the injured man to Cambridge Hospital in his automobile, but he was dead before the hospital could be reached. The motor man was arrested on a charge of manslaughter and held on $3000. bail which was furnished by the company. Witnesses all agreed that the accident was unavoidable.
