WATERBURY – Manuel Barbosa, 89, husband of Antonia (Vieira) Barbosa, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 2, 2020.

He was born in Portugal on March 16, 1931, son of the late Francisco and Maria (Nogueira) Barbosa. Manny moved from Portugal to the United States in 1969 with his family and eventually settled in Waterbury.

He worked for LoRusso Construction for many years until his retirement. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Manuel enjoyed gardening, making wine, and playing cards and dominoes with his family. He had also raised rabbits during his younger years.

Besides his loving wife Antonia, he is survived by his three sons, Manuel “Joe” of Waterbury, Armando of Thomaston, and Frank Barbosa of Waterbury; his two daughters, Cecilia Fernandes and Estela Surreira, all of Waterbury; his sisters Emelia of France and Rosalinda of Portugal; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Manuel was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Heather Barbosa.

Funeral services will be private and burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Waterbury. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a future date_
