Enlisted on November 9, 1862, and mustered into Company E, 2nd Regiment, Nebraska Cavalry (Union). Enlistment Rank: 3rd Corporal.

The Regiment was organized at Omaha, Nebraska, on October 23, 1862, as a nine-month regiment, and was assigned to duty at Fort Kearney, Neb., guarding the frontier of Nebraska, protecting emigrants, stage and telegraph lines, and operating against Indians till April 1863.

Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Sully's Expedition against Indians in Dakota Territory (August 13-September 11, 1863); Action at White Stone Hill, Dakota Territory (September 3, 1863).

Mustered out of service on December 11, 1863.

Filed for Invalid Pension on July 10, 1905 (Application No. 1,338,016 and certificate No. 1,112,839. His wife filed for a widow's pension on June 9, 1908.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Andrew Scott, farmer and stock raiser, Sec. 21, P.O. Pawnee. Mr. Scott was born in Roxburyshire, England, in 1842, and came to America, in 1859, with his people, who located here, where he has been actively engaged at his present industry since. In 1870, he was married to Miss Julia A. Burg, who was born and reared in Indiana. They have a family of two sons and one daughter- William B., Francis H., and Dulcina.
Mr. Scott served in the Second Nebraska Regiment, from its organization till the close of the war, when he was mustered out and honorably discharged. He has been an active worker in the development of the social life in his locality.

Andrew Scott was the son of William Scott and Mary Oliver (who married on April 13, 1838, in the Parish of Southdean, County of Roxburghshire, Scotland.
The 1841 Scottish Census (taken on June 6, 1841) has Andrew with his parents in the Parish of Hobkirk, Roxburghshire, aged 9 months. This means Andrew was actually born about August 1840.
The 1851 Scottish Census (taken on March 30, 1851) has Andrew with his parents in the Parish of Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland, aged 10. That record states Andrew was born in the Parish of Southdean, County of Roxburghshire. Also in the household is Andrew's younger brother, William Scott, aged 4, born in the Parish of Jedburgh.
In 1858, the family emigrated to New York aboard the ship "America" (arrived in NY on July 23, 1858). The passenger list has them as:
"Wm Scott, age 45, Farmer; Mary Scott, age 45; Andrew Scott, age 17; William Scott, age 11".
By the 1860 US Census, the parents and son William are in West Branch, Pawnee. Andrew wasn't included in that household for the Census.
