Carl Hurst, age 89, of Melrose, Florida went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. He was born in Melbourne, Florida.

Carl loved his community. He served the City of Starke as a City Commissioner, as Mayor, and as a Municipal Judge. He was one of the founders of Madison Street Baptist Church of Starke and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Starke. He was the owner and operator of four service stations in Starke; the most recent was Hurst Exxon. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Gator fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Hurst; his brothers, Robert Hurst and James Hurst; and his grandson, Paul Blanks.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Sue Crye (Pete); sons, Andrew Strickland (Suzanne), Mark Strickland (Dawn); six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Carl's life will be held Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Starke with Minister Harry Hatcher officiating. Interment will be at New River Baptist Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services and Archie Tanner Memorial Chapel, Starke, FL.
