Clara Mangles was the daughter of Captain Charles Edward Mangles and Rose Newcome Mangles and she was born and grew up at Poyle House in Tongham. As an adult, she lived with her brother Henry Albert Mangles at the house he had built called Littleworth Cross House in Seale. Henry Mangles became a keen horticulturalist, specializing in rhododendrons. He developed a hybrid called Rhododendron 'Clara Mangles'. Clara died at Littleworth Cross House in Seale.
