Wales and his step-son, John Biggins, migrated to the U.S. in September 1884 and the rest of his family arrived in 1885. He and Elizabeth had ten known children.
NOTE: Although the stone reflects 1848 as his year of birth, the 1900 US census relates that Wales was born in Oct 1851 and that year is further supported by the 1910 & 1920 censuses. Additonally, the 1851 birth year is also compatable with the 1861, 1871 and 1881 UK censuses.
One's family almost always knows the birthDAY of a relative, but can often be confused by the birthYEAR, especially when that data is given to a stonecutter.
Hence, I went with the birth year of 1851, which I believe to be correct.
