Kenneth James Unk, son of Steven Unk, Sr. and Mary Mueller Unk, was born June 11, 1946, in Washington, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, December 28, 2012, in his home, near Conway, Missouri, at the age of sixty-six years, six months, and seventeen days.

On June 17, 2011, he was united in marriage to Janie Ozell Candler, and they shared the last eighteen months.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Gina Unk. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Janie, of the home; four sons, Ben Unk, and his wife, Rose, of Fenton, Missouri, Jamie Clarke, of Conway, Missouri, Chuck Clarke, and his wife, JoJo, of Delhi, Louisiana, and Joe Clarke, of Buffalo, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Sam, Allie, Jeremiah, Matthew, Joel, Katie, Chuck, and Katrina; three brothers, Steve Unk, and his wife, Mary, of the State of Texas, Michael Unk, and David Unk, both of St. Louis, Missouri; three sisters, Mary Kempker, and her husband, Alvin, of Jefferson City, Missouri, Ruth Accardi, of Arnold, Missouri, and Carole Ann Kahn, of Germany; a number of nieces and nephews; as well a host of other relatives and friends.

He was raised in the Washington and Union, Missouri areas, and graduated from Union High School in the Class of 1964. He entered the United States Marine Corps as a young man, and served his country faithfully for four years. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on April 24, 1970. He returned to Union, Missouri, where he worked for the Valley Park Chemical Company for several years, and obtained the position of supervisor in the chemical department.

Kenneth was the son of a circuit preacher, and enjoyed talking about spiritual things. He was a member of Communion Chapel Bible Church which he referred to as “the church in the woods”.

He was active in the Salvation Army for several years. In his spare time liked watching baseball on television, and enjoyed reading historical books. In his younger years, he liked taking the kids on hikes, and enjoyed watching the rain, and seeing the river rise. He possessed a loving heart and cared deeply for his family.

Kenneth was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
