She was predeceased by her husband, her brother, John Ciardi - legendary and beloved poet, author, Dante translator, etymologist, professor, and longtime lecturer and director at the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference at Middlebury, VT. She was survived by two sons, John J. of Brookline, and Paul A. of Idaho, as well as two sisters, Cora Fennessey of Medford, and Edith Rosi of Billerica, MA, and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was born in Boston's Italian North End to Italian immigrant parents from Avellino, Campania, Italia (not far inland from Naples).
