Carmela "Ella" Elizabeth Ciardi Rubero, a longtime resident of Brookline, died at home after a long illness. She was a renowned fashion and bridal designer who designed evening dresses and bridal gowns for many well-known clients. She sponsored fashion shows to benefit the Boston Lyric Opera and the Dante Alighieri Society, of which she was a member.

She married Joseph Vincent Rubero/a (b. Nov 10, 1910, Italy - d. May 9, 1951, Miami, FL) in St. Joseph's Church, Medford, MA, on Feb 24, 1935. He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Paul Rubero/a, of Buzzels Ln, Medford (Paul Rubero/a & Amenta Lucia/Lucy Rubero/a).

They had 2 sons, John and Paul. It appears he and Ella divorced and he remarried in Florida where he died in 1951.

She was predeceased by her husband, her brother, John Ciardi - legendary and beloved poet, author, Dante translator, etymologist, professor, and longtime lecturer and director at the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference at Middlebury, VT. She was survived by two sons, John J. of Brookline, and Paul A. of Idaho, as well as two sisters, Cora Fennessey of Medford, and Edith Rosi of Billerica, MA, and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was born in Boston's Italian North End to Italian immigrant parents from Avellino, Campania, Italia (not far inland from Naples).
