Per his indexed Death Certificate (Philadelphia, PA, found on Ancestry), William died at age 84 years, 8 months on 24 Dec 1874. This would make William's birthdate in April 1790 rather than 1796 as shown on the memorial as of 27 July 2023. This earlier birth date also fits better relative to his service in the War of 1812 and his marriage on 20 Mar 1813 to Sarah Bender, per the records of the German Reformed Church of Germantown, Philadelphia, PA. The Geneanet Community Trees Index also gives William's birth date as 29 Apr 1790.

From the obituary posted on the memorial of his daughter, Alverdah, it is noted William was a Major in the War of 1812 "and a drum contractor during the war with Mexico" (1846 - 1848). Indeed,I found William listed as a "Drum Maker" in the 1864 Philadelphia City Directory which listed him as living on Queen Street in the Germantown section.

I also found William's Will, written 10 April 1871, online at Ancestry. In it, William leaves his "entire estate", which I assume meant land as well as his personal possessions, to his daughter, Alverdah. He makes a point of stating, for clarity, that he is leaving her his entire estate becasue of her diligence in caring for both her sister, Louisa, and his wife, Sarah, through their final illnesses. He then notes Alverdah was also providing "constant care and attention" to him, due to his "infirmities" at the time he was writing his Will.

Researching Peter Ent, my 4X Great Grandfather, also buried in Hood Cemetery, but I do not currently there is a close family connection between the 2 men
