Merritt Gibson Barton, 88, a former San Bernardino resident, died of injuries sustained in a fall at his home in Berkeley on Oct.20 at Alta Bathes Hospital in Berkeley.
Barton, a native and 34-year resident of San Bernardino, was widely recognized as a singer and for his oil paintings. His grandfather, Ben Barton, was an early settler in Ssan Bernardino Vally, and his father, Hiram Barton, was the first mayor of San Bernardino. Barton Road and Barton Flats were named after the Barton family.
He is survived by his neice, Brenda Boss of Big Bear Lake.
