Professional Football Player. For fifteen seasons (1958 to 1972), he played at the tackle, center and guard positions in the Canadian, American and National Football Leagues with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Calgary Stampeders, Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, Houston Oilers and Philadelphia Eagles. Born Jerry Gordon Sturm, he played football, basketball and track and field during his years at Gerstmeyer High School in Indiana. He enrolled at the University of Illinois where he played collegiate football and following graduation, he signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL. During his years with the Denver Broncos, he achieved AFL All Star status twice (1964 and 1966). He held the distinction as being on the New Orleans Saints' roster during their inaugural season of 1967. He totaled 144 career regular season AFL and NFL games. After retiring from football, he operated a restaurant in Englewood, Colorado for fifty-years. He died of complications from dementia. His brain was donated to the Concussion Legacy Foundation at the University of Boston.
