W.F. Barnes lived with his wife and two young children, James Martin and Mary Jane, 2 miles north of Dover, AR., near the Illinois Bayou. He went to Dover with his team and wagon and was coming home when the creek rose and, while trying to cross, he and his team were swept away and he drowned. His wife, Mary A.E. Brown and children moved in with her parents, Martin and Nancy Brown.
William served with the Arkansas Calvary during the Civil War.
