Elmer N. Armstrong, 65 died Friday, August 23, 2002 at St Dominic – Jackson Memorial Hospital. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today and 12 noon Monday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street in Jackson. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with burial in Brandon Memorial Park.
Mr. Armstrong was a native of New Hebron. He finished high school in 1955 at New Hebron High School and moved to Jackson that year. He started work for Sears Roebuck & Company in January 1956 and moved to G&O Manufacturing Company in 1958. In February 1962 when he went to work for Southern Bell (South Central Bell) Telephone Company, he retired in 1991 as a Supervisor. He loved to hunt and fish and later on in years he loved to do gardening. He was a life long member of New Hebron Baptist Church, he was a life member of Telephone Pioneers of American, Sons of the American Revolution, The Order of First Families of Mississippi, Family Genealogist and The Armstrong Clan Society.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Armstrong of Pelahatchie; son Michael N. Armstrong and daughter in-law Karen Hawkins Armstrong of Pearl; daughter, Debbie Smith of Pearl; step-son, Chuck Hayes and daughter in-law Rose Kilgore Hayes of Florence; grandsons, Justin Smith, Walter N. Armstrong II; granddaughter, Jennifer Hayes; and brother, Jerry Armstrong of Richland.
Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Armstrong and father, Percy N, Armstrong and son in-law, Kevin Smith.
