OBITUARY:
Richard Andrew Bletcher, 64, of 323 N. Mount Joy St., Elizabethtown, died Monday at 11:33 a.m. in Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Donald V. and Thelma Heiss Bletcher and the husband of Grace Ellen McCandless Bletcher. He was a self-employed private investigator since 1971. He formed the first detective agency in Lancaster County, Central Detective Agency in 1971. He had served as an officer in the Elizabethtown Police Department and was also a machinist with the J.L. Clark Manufacturing Co. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served in the Navy from 1936 to 1956 and for 10 years in the Reserves. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 106, Mechanicsburg; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post 6704, Mechanicsburg; a past member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Lancaster County Law Enforcement Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: Beatrice Ann, wife of Wells H. Gage Jr., and James Vernon Bletcher, both of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy B., wife of William DeHaven, Lancaster. (Intelligencer Journal - Oct 11, 1983)
