She graduated from high school in Grandview, WA. She was an original Rosie the Riveter working at the Boeing plant in Seattle, WA during World War II. With her first husband, Scott, who was an officer in the U.S Air Force, she traveled around the U.S. and Japan while raising her three children. After settling in Savannah, GA, she graduated from vocational school and workedfor the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System as a secretary at the Chatham County Board of Education. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothea Brenner; children, Burder (Buzz) Smith Athey, III and Lorelle (Lori) Athey Petrea; sisters, Antonia Keithley, Clara Brenner and Tina Hill; brother, John Brenner; and two ex-husbands, Burder "Scott" Smith Athey, Jr. and John Cook. Surviving are her daughter, Susanne L Sapp; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Steven M and Becky Petrea; granddaughter, Danielle N Smith; and sister, Irene Ruth Hoskin.
