Suggested edit: Age 21, he enlisted and mustered as Private, Company C, 87th Ohio Infantry on 4 June 1862. He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 19 September 1862 with typhoid fever and died there on 25 September. His regiment had been captured as part of the garrison of Harpers Ferry on 15 September 1862 and was not at the battle of Antietam.
