Samuel "Sammy" Neely was born August 18, 1925 to Aaron Neely and Lula Gully Hickman Neely in Kemper County, MS.

During his youth, he joined New Hope United Methodist Church in DeKalb, MS. He served the church in many capacities where he was a member of the Board of Trustees, Building Fund Committee, and Church Treasurer.

He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean War. He was also instrumental in getting the New Hope Cemetery Committee established.

First, he married Annie Lou Griffin, the daughter of T.S. Griffin and Lucille Clayborne Griffin, who was also a native of Kemper County, MS. Four children, three sons and one daughter, were born to their union.

Secondly, he married Louise Easley who was a native of Meridian, Lauderdale County, MS. Two children, both sons, were born to their union.

He was also the father of one other child, a daughter.

He was the oldest male in the New Hope Community; the oldest member of New Hope United Methodist Church; and the oldest male member of the New Hope United Methodist Church as well in DeKalb, MS.

He died July 5, 2020 at the age of 94.

He was the Husband of Annie Lou Griffin Neely and Louise Easley Neely; the Father of Rev. Winfred Neely, Samuel Neely, Rev. Michael Neely, Infant Daughter Neely, Rodney Neely, Troy Neely, and Georgia Neely Chamberlain; the Son of Aaron Neely and Lula Gully Hickman Neely; the Brother of Reece Hickman, Eli Hickman, Oscar "Art" Neely, Chandler Hickman Adams Vance Harrel, Curlee Neely, Pauline Neely Houston, and Teola Hickman McAfee; the Paternal Grandson of David "Dave" Neely and Judy Cole Neely; and the Maternal Grandson of Joe Gully and Anna Porter Gully.
