Reece Hickman was born December 19, 1909 to Chandler Hickman and Lula Gully Hickman in Kemper County, MS.

During his youth, he joined New Hope United Methodist Church in DeKalb, MS. He served the church in many capacities where he was a member of the Board of Trustees, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Building Fund Committee, and Class Leader.

He married Johnnie Mae Moten, the daughter of Ben Moten and Zonnie Moten, and they had seven children, all sons.

He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scout Master for the New Hope Boy Scout Troops, and a founding member of the Kemper County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He was also instrumental in getting the Headstart Program started in Kemper County, MS.

He died April 7, 1990 at the age of 80.

He was the Husband of Johnnie Mae Moten Hickman; the Father of A.V. Hickman, Chandler "Pete" Hickman, Lennard Earl Hickman, Larry Dobie Hickman, Paul Hickman, Donald Jerome "Jerry" Hickman, and Donald Earl Hickman; the Son of Chandler Hickman and Lula Gully Hickman Neely; the Brother of Eli Hickman, Oscar "Art" Neely, Sammy Neely, Chandler Hickman Adams Vance Harrel, Curlee Neely, Pauline Neely Houston, and Teola Hickman McAfee; the Paternal Grandson of Dossie "Doss" Hickman and Nannie Coleman Hickman; and the Maternal Grandson of Joe Gully and Anna Porter Gully.
