Oscar S. Fargie, Jr., Sgt. Major, USMC (Retired), passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 1999. He was 77 years old. He was born in St. Louis, MO and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1939.
He served in the Pacific during World War II, and was captured in the Philippines, surviving the Bataan Death March. He was held a prisoner of war for 3 ½ years in Japan and worked in the copper mines while a captive. He also served in the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He was a member of the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor; life member of DAV, Chapter #1, Honolulu; life member of VFW, Oahu Chapter, NARFE, Waikiki Chapter 1656. He was awarded the following medals: Bronze Star; WW2 Victory, Asia Pacific, Philippine Defense; American Theatre, China Service; Presidential Unit Citation; Armed Forces Distinguished Unit Citation; POW Medal, Korean Service, United Nations Service.
He is survived by wife, Kaweloleilani J. Miles Fargie; sons, William T. K. and Dennis M. K.; 5 granddaughters and 5 grandsons; nieces and nephews.

Oscar Fargie Jr., 77, of Honolulu, a retired Sergeant Major in the U.S. Marine Corps, died Wednesday in Straub Hospital. He was born in St. Louis. He is survived by wife Kaweloleilani, sons William and Dennis, five granddaughters and five grandsons. Services: 8 p.m. Monday at Borthwick Mortuary. Call from 7 to 9 p.m. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery. Donations suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN.
