Nora Riordan was born in London, England to John J. Riordan 1853-1924 (from Millstreet, County Cork, Ireland) and to Julia Kelleher 1852-1935. Nora was the oldest of 7 children, the 2 oldest born in London and the others in Sudbury, Ontario or finally in Morden, Manitoba. Her dad, John had come from the Riordan clan in Millstreet, County Cork, Ireland to Winnipeg. John's father, also John Riordan 1815-1897 had lived and died with the Riordan clan in Millstreet, County Cork, Ireland. The 7 children of John and Julia Riordan: 1.Sr. Hanora Riordan 1880-1950, 2.John Riordan 1882-? (disappeared when young due to foul play?), 3.Kathleen Gertrude (Kate) Riordan 1884-1931, 4.Julia Philomena Riordan 1886-1942, 5.Mary Agnes Riordan 1888-1974, 6.Daniel Patrick Riordan 1890-1955, 7.Helen Philomena (Nellie) Riordan O'Sullivan 1892-1969. Her family moved to Sudbury, Ontario when she was 8 and Kate and Jule were born there. By the time Mary was born in 1888 they were living in Morden, Manitoba. Nora wanted to become a religious but her parents strongly objected. She worked in a hospital in Saint Boniface, Manitoba(part of Winnipeg) and then entered the Grey Sisters of St. Boniface in 1899 and her final vows in 1901 as Sister Mary Hanora. Her family refused to come and cut her off for many years; she became a nurse and served in a sanitarium of Saint Vital [St. Boniface Sanatorium (also known as the St. Vital Tuberculosis Sanatorium)]and at an Indian school. Sister Nora had to learn French to speak to the nuns. She died of a painful cancer of the throat on September 20, 1950 and is buried at St. Boniface Cemetery in Manitoba.
