Spring Valley Child Dies of Burns 04/21/1935
Brodhead- Audrey R. Nipple, five-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Nipple, Spring Valley, was fatally burned Saturday afternoon when her clothing caught fire as she played near a rubbish blaze on her father's farm. She died at 9 a.m. Sunday.
Her father, near the scene at the time, attempted to reach her, but in her hysterical condition she ran from him and was badly burned before he was able to catch her. His hands were badly burned in attempting to extinguish the flames. Nipple had been burning rubbish after cleaning his yard for the spring, and the fire was almost out when he left to do other work. The children put corn stalks on the embers before he returned.
The farm is known as the Andrew Everson property, and is situated three miles west of Orfordville.
The child is survived by her parents, three brothers, Wayne, Walter and Willis, her grandfather, Ben Vigdahl, Magnolia, and a great-grandfather, Carl Lund, Sr., Beloit. She was born in Magnolia township July 1, 1930.
Funeral services will be held at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in the Everson Funeral Home, and at 2 in the Orfordville Lutheran Church, the Rev. L. M. Gimmestad officiating. Burial will be in Orfordville.
