David Easler was born in Alsace-Lorriane, France and immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1838. They first settled in Portage County, Ohio and came to Fremont Twp., Winneshiek County, Iowa in 1853.

He and Sarah Glimps married on October 8, 1854. Two children were born to them: a daughter, Mrs. Woodward and a son, Darius.

David remarried in 1860 to Adeline Merkel. They had 10 children, 4 boys: George, John, David and Ed, and 6 girls (with married names): Emma Louise Pfendler, Caroline Bullis, Adeline Ruschhaupt, Lucinda Wells, Minnie Craig and Alice McEvitt.
