Rollin Davis Osgood Jr. was born on 22 Feb 1918 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama to Rollin Davis Osgood Sr. and Minnie (Meek) Osgood. He died on 18 Jan 2018 a little over a month prior to his 100th birthday. He married Allen Jemison Bonnoitt, who preceded him in death.
He attended local schools, including Birmingham Southern College and graduated from Princeton University in 1940. He joined the Bankers Trust Company of New York. Six months into his career, he was drafted into the United States Army where he would eventually train in the Army Finance School. He later moved to the Pacific theater as a disbursing officer at the Eighth Army Headquarters.
After the war in 1945, he returned to Birmingham and joined the Southern Research Institute which had formed one year prior. He found his permanent career here, retiring from there in 1980. In retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, studying the French language, and traveling, mainly in France. He served as a board member of several charitable organizations. He especially enjoyed the membership in the Monday Group.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his son.
