Ethyl M. Ackroyd, 96, of Methuen, Massachusetts passed away on Wednesday November 28, 2018 at D’Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. She is now in the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ.

Ethyl is survived by her husband of 74 years Theodore C. Ackroyd Jr., daughters, Cherylle and her husband Walter “Skip” Hird, of New Bern, NC, Ellen and her husband Robert Greenwood of Methuen, MA, daughter-in-law, Angie Ackroyd of Newburyport, MA, and grandchildren, Bethany, Amanda, and Melissa Greenwood of Methuen, MA and Cuyler Ackroyd of Las Vegas, NV. She is also survived by her sister Gladys Chorley of Salem NH; as well as, many nieces and nephews. Ethyl was predeceased by her son, Rand Ackroyd, her sisters Lillian Magoon, Helen Ebert, Mildred Tyler, Eleanor Lenzen, Edna Watts, Ruth Haligowski, Marjorie Caton and Edith Fancy, and her parents Annie and Robert Copeland.

Ethyl was born and raised in Salem, New Hampshire and was a graduate of Woodbury High School. Prior to her marriage and the birth of her children she worked in the Arlington Mills. Ethyl spent most of her lifetime caring for and loving her family. She was also very involved in ministry activities at her church. She taught Sunday school for many years, sang in the choir, and was involved in the Junior Philathea group at Saint George’s Ebenezer Primitive Methodist Church; and later with the Senior Saints Ministry of Marsh Corner Community Church. She was a consummate seamstress, making clothing for her children and grandchildren, and she also loved to knit and crochet. She was famous for her beautiful afghans, sweaters, hats, and mittens which she made for family, friends, and various Christian ministries. For many years Ethyl and her husband Ted enjoyed camping, traveling, bowling, and square dancing with their friends. In her later years, she enjoyed having her family for Sunday dinner and game playing. She was a great prayer warrior and spent many hours praying for her family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Ethyl on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA. Visitation begins at 9:30 A.M. and the Service at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Methuen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to GracePoint Community Church, 25 Orchard Hill Road, North Andover, MA 01845.
