Andrew Metcalf, an old resident of Short Creek and a soldier in the late war, died on Friday of last week and was buried the following Sunday. Rev. J. M. Payne delivered a brief sermon at the residence of the deceased, after which the Grand Army post took charge of the remains and laid them to rest with military honors. The Citizen's Military Band assisted in the impressive service.

Biographical Notes:
Andrew W. was the son of James and Narcissus Metcalf. He served in the Wisconsin 25th Infantry Regiment, Company I, in the Civil War, then married Mary R. Calls [?], on October 3, 1865, in Grant County, Wisconsin. His wife Mary’s death could not be found, but there were several listings in the early spring of 1890, that Joseph Shoman was handling the estate of the recently deceased Mary R. Metcalf, and Mr. Shoman became the guardian of Andrew and Mary’s daughters, Nellie and Bertha.
In 1880, the family lived in Benton County, Missouri. The children were: Anna Metcalf age 13, Arthur Metcalf age 10, George Metcalf age 8, Nellie Metcalf age 6 and Bertha Metcalf age 2.
