On Tuesday July 21, 2020, Forest Lee Messer Jr., a loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 74. Forest was born May 17, 1946 Piqua, Ohio to Forest and Betty Messer.

Forest served the United States Army, during the Vietnam era as a 101st Airborne Ranger, Phantom Force. He is a highly decorated veteran and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart among other accolades for his bravery and devotion to his country.

Forest and Suzanne Messer married on August 9,1969. The couple had two children, Michael and Melody Messer. Forest, devoted husband and father, enjoyed Sunday drives and boating with his family. He was an avid golfer and lover of basketball, inducted into the Newton High School Hall of Fame, where he still holds the record for most points scored during a game. He also dedicated 50 years in the transportation industry, working alongside his daughter Melody every day for the last 30 years.

His smile was known to light up a room, keeping everyone entertained. His heart and acts of kindness knew no bounds. His altruistic disposition touched all that knew him.

Forest was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Betty Messer. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Messer; 2 children, Michael and Melody Messer; 4 grandchildren, Alex, Blake, Clayton Bell and Cody Messer; and 3 sisters, Connie Bishop, Jackie Mayhan, Cheryl Fortune.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Rd., Liberty Twp., OH 45044, from 10 AM until 12 noon. A funeral service of shared memories will be held at 12 noon.

The family is honored to announce that Forest will be laid to rest at the historic Arlington National Cemetery.
