EAST BROOKFIELD - Nicholas Butcher, 90 of 117 Evergreen St., a World War II veteran and retired wire drawer, died Friday, Aug 24th in St. Vincent Hospital and Worcester Medical Center after a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 42 years, Irene L. (Braconnieer) Butcher, three sons, Robert and Bruce Butcher and William Cullen, all of North Carolina; two daughters, Carol R. Premo of Spencer and Mary S. Wilson of West Brookfield; a brother Arthur Butcher of Ware, 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Five brothers, Frank, Anthony, Michael, William and Joseph Butcher, and two sisters Barbara Poulin and Eleanor Thomas predeceased him. He was born in Agram, Austria, son of Louis and Ana (Markusich) Butcher, and lived here most of his life. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Butcher was a wire drawer at Johnson Steel & Wire Co., Worcester, where he worked 36 years, retiring in 1973.

he was a 50-year member of American Legion Post 386 in East Brookfield, a former member of United Steel Workers Union Local 3189 in Worcester, where he was past president and former shop steward; a member of Lashaway Senior Citizens Club; and a charter member of Johnson Steel Credit Union.

The funeral service and calling hours will be private in J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, Spencer. Burial will be at the family's convenience in Evergreen Cemetery.
