Last rites for Thomas Henry Billingsley were conducted from the chapel of Lee Funeral Home Sunday afternoon, October 31 with Rev. John W. Green officiating assisted by Rev. Taylor Ballard.
Mr. Billingsley had been ill health for several months and died Friday, October 29 at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital.
Born at Lodi, December 1, 1884, the oldest son of DeVotie and Connie Aldridge Billingsley, pioneer families of Montgomery County, he moved to Winona with his family in 1899.
In his younger years, he owner of a clothing store for men. From January, 1927 to January, 1937 he served as Mayor of Winona. During his administration the Community House was built and Winona became an all-paved city. Later and until his retirement, Mr. Billingsley served as bookkeeper for the Billingsley Wholesale Grocery.
Mr. Billingsley is survived by his wife, the former Miss Mintie Flowers of Kilmichael; two daughters, Miss Allie Ward Billingsley, Professor of Spanish at Illinois State University and Mrs. Eugene Brister of Grenada; three grandsons, Gene Brister, a student in the New England Conservatory of music at Boston, Henry Brister, a junior at Mississippi State University and Ward Brister, a junior in the Grenada High School; two brothers, DeWitt Billingsley of New Orleans, Louisiana and M. C. Billingsley of Winona; four sisters, Mrs. J. D. Stone of Lambert, Mrs. C. A. Shaw of Oxford, Mrs. Irby A. Waddlington of Memphis and Mrs. H. E. Johnson of Winona.
Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Lee Funeral Home.
