Mrs. Cynthia Atkinson, wife of Stephen H. Atkinson was born in Lee Co. Virginia, February 11, 1824. She died December 14, 1910, at her home near Latimer, Kansas, after an illness of about three months. At the age of 16 she was converted and became a child of God, and a member of the Baptist church. She was a christian character of high ideals and loved the house of God. At an early age she was united in marriage with Ephraim Johnson. This union was blessed with ten children, six of these children and the husband have preceded her in death. In 1868 she came to Kansas, in the same year was married to Stephen H. Atkinson. They spent 42 years together. Her life was a beautiful example of Christian faithfulness. She was rich in good works and leaves this world better for having lived in it. The living sons, with the exception of one, were present at the funeral. Also grand children,great grand children, step children and many friends. Friends and loved ones think of her as having entered the saints rest. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Tucker at her home. Interment was made in the Atkinson cemetery on Clark's Creek.
