He graduated from Woodland High School in 1974 and Illinois Valley Community College with an associates degree in applied science.
He was employed at Caterpillar in Pontiac until he became ill.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #645, Bayou Bluffs in Cornell and served as a union steward with the United Auto Workers Local #2096.
He was an avid bowler in leagues at both Streator Lanes and Bowl-Mor.
He was a member of Central Church of Christ.
