Wilhelmine (Wilhelmina) Kopp was born in Poland to a German family. In 1871 (or possibly 1874) she married Andreas Lilge Jr. They moved to Volhynia, Russia (present-day Ukraine) and then the USA for a short term before settling in Alberta, Canada. They had 13 children. Andreas was a lay minister with the Moravian and Lutheran churches serving in several parishes. When he went to a parish in Russell, Manitoba his family stayed in Bruderheim, Alberta. After a short return to Bruderheim, Andreas left the family and he and Wilhelmina were divorced in February 1916. Wilhelmina moved to Portland sometime in 1918 or 1919 to be near her family there.
