Lawrence S. Basso, age 81, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Joan Rende Basso, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 in Gaylord Specialty Health Center, Wallingford. Lawrence, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, was born in Bridgeport on Jan. 20, 1936 to the late Michael and Anne (Mayernick) Basso and has been a lifelong area resident. He was a member of the West Haven Italian Club and enjoyed traveling to Florida and day trips to the Casino. Lawrence was an avid fan of U-Conn Women's Basketball and following the Stock Market on Bloomberg TV, he also enjoyed playing Rummy Cube, however, the most important thing to him was spending time with his beloved family. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his sister Delores Cortello. Survivors include his devoted children,
his cherished grandchildren, two brothers, In Laws and several nieces and nephews. The Basso family would like to thank the staff at St. Vincent's Medical Center and Gaylord Specialty HCC for their kind and loving care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017; meeting directly at Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Ln., Stratford, with military honors immediately following. Interment will be private. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Pl., Stratford. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a donation in memory of Lawrence to Swim Across the Sound c/o St. Vincent's MC, or to Gaylord Specialty HCC. Published in Shelton Herald on Feb. 24, 2017.
