DEATH OF THOMAS WHY.
The death took place last Saturday of Thomas Why, at his residence, 4959 Wakefield street, where on Tuesday afternoon the funeral services were held, the Rev. Thomas McBride Nichols, of Market Square Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment was made in Ivy Hill Cemetery, the committal being in charge of members of Ellis Post, No. 6, G. A. R., of which the deceased was a post commander. His wife and two children survive. Mr. Why was born fifty-two years ago in England, and came to America in 1856 with his parents. When not quite 16 years of age he enlisted in Company G, 100th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, and reenlisted two years later in Company E, 111th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was honorably discharged a corporal. He was for some time color bearer of his regiment, and served in all of the most important battles. He was wounded at Chancellorsville.
