AKINS , Harold P. - Of Flint, age 70, died Sunday, October 6, 1996 at Genesys Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m Wednesday, October 9, 1996 at Allen-Raysin Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Rev. Hal Phillips and Evangelist Eddie Phillips officiating. Burial at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Akins will lie in state at the Allen-Raysin Funeral Home where family will receive visitors from 1-3 and 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. A memorial service will be conducted by the Davison Masonic Lodge #236 and Davison Chapter No. 299, O.E.S. at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. A military graveside service will be conducted by the Flint VFW Post #3087. Mr. Akins was born in Ripley, Mississippi on January 14, 1926, the son of Clifton P. and Florence G. (Reaves) Akins . He lived in the Flint area for the past four years. Mr. Akins married Ruth Lavina Fleming on February 18, 1961 in Flint, Michigan, she preceded him in death in 1982. He was a past master of the Davison Masonic Lodge #236, member of the Burton VFW Post #2777 and a member of UAW Local 659. Mr. Akins served in WWII in Co. F. 310th Infantry Division from March 23, 1944 to July 2, 1946. Mr. Akins worked at General Motors, Chevrolet Plant 2A, retiring in 1983. Surviving are: son, Tony and wife DeAnna Akins of Flint; sisters, Ruth and husband Glen VanDeWater of Davison, Mary Wanzell Jones of Arizona, Opal Benham of Mississippi, Martha and Emile Ouillette of Canada; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. The joy of his life for the last two years, his granddaughter, Alesha Akins . Preceded in death by a brother, mother, father and a sister. We would like to give a special thanks to the nurses, Chris and Julie on the PTU Unit at Genesys, St. Joseph Hospital for al their love and support and to Dr. Prasad Kommareddi.
