Architect. He was a 19th-century Mexican architect. He and his brother Juan were educated at the Military College. In 1846 they were withdrawn by the Academy of San Carlos to study in Rome. They did archaeological work in that city, under the care of Luigi Conino. They sent to Mexico the magnificent drawings of Roman monuments that served as models for the Academy. Upon their return in 1853, they personally brought another collection. They were drawing teachers at the National Preparatory School (UNAM) in 1868. They were also Academic Architects of Merits of the Royal Academy of San Carlos. As partners, they made a provisional triumphal arch in the Plaza Mayor in honor of Santa Anna in 1854, stairs in the National Palace from 1864 to 1867, and the House-Workshop of the tailor Luis Sarre on 5 de Mayo street, completed in 1900. Some of his works are a project for the imperial chapel of the Alcázar de Chapultepec and the pond in the schoolyard in the Faculty of Mining both in 1866, completion of the monument to Cuauhtémoc on the Paseo de la Reforma, the expansion of the Secretaries of Finance and of War of the National Palace from 1890 to 1891. Some people attribute to him the layout of the Paseo de la Reforma by order of Maximilian.
