David Miller was bound out to a hotel keeper as a boy in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. When he came of age he learned the tailor's trade. He married Miss Barbara Reichner and in 1832 they moved to Boalsburg. He rented a farm & prospered, buying a farm in the "Barrens".
David Miller was a man of small build and in early life enjoyed good health but developed a crooked leg but it did not stop him from working. He & his wife had 11 children:
(1) Charles who drowned in Huntingdon County
(2) Elias
(3) Thomas drowned in Lehigh County while being employed as a lock tender on the canal
(4) Hettie who married first Samuel Bloom & second Henry Garner
(5) Julia A who married William Davis & died in Ferguson township
(6) Gideon who died young
(7) Mary Ann who married Daniel Diebler of Shamokin
(8) Reuben
(9) Sarah
two others died in childhood.
Additional information: David & Barbara are listed in the same cemetery as Elias, they are reported to have been moved to the German Reformed Cemetery, but their names are still in the cemetery book records.
