Almeda was baptized in July 1940 in the nearby Black River, and grew up attending Hopewell Baptist Church near Reyno, Arkansas. She completed her education at Corning High School at the age of 16, having skipped first and twelfth grades. That August, she began attending Ouachita Baptist College, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she met Don Richard Elliott Sr , and on August 6, 1950 they married at First Baptist Church, Corning. In addition to being a talented soprano, she was a majorette and played the clarinet in the OBU Band. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Education from OBC in 1951 and her Master's degree from the University of Central Arkansas in Special Education.
Her husband, Don, was in the Army and was stationed in Germany where their first son, Don, Jr. was born. After returning to the U.S., they lived in Bentonville until 1959 where she was a homemaker and had two more sons, Steve and Wyley. The family moved to Morrilton where their fourth son, Mark, was born. In 1963, the Elliotts moved to Cabot, and Almeda later became the director of the Special Education Department for the school district.
In 1986, Don Sr. and Almeda traveled to Zhengzhou, Yantai, China and Hong Kong as lay missionaries and taught conversational English to medical students.
A private family service will be held with the interment at Pinnacle Memorial Gardens.
