James Robert "J.R." Johnston, 94, of Elaine, Arkansas passed away Monday, March 31, 2008 in Helena, Arkansas. Mr. Johnston was born December 26, 1913 in Red Bay, Alabama to the late William Authur and Mattie Abigail Kent Johnston.

He is survived by 3 sons, Jimmy Johnston and Joyce of Memphis, Tennessee, Jerry Johnston and Pat of Elaine, and David Johnston and Mary Beth of Alachua, Florida; 3 brothers, Charles Johnston of Elaine, Bob Johnston and Dorothy of Elaine, and Curtis Johnston and Kim of Southaven, Mississippi; 1 sister, Robie Permenter and John of Vilonia, Arkansas; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Minnie Johnston; sons, Mike and Thomas Johnston; brothers, Clayton, Cleatus, Alfred, Hollis and Aaron Johnston.

Services for Mr. Johnston will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Elaine Baptist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena. Reverend Luke Watson and Reverend Harold Danley will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Tony Silva, Joe Johnston, Billy Johnston, William Flowers, Kenneth Parker, Don Johnston, and Eddie Johnston. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Johnston, Deacons of Elaine Baptist Church, and Brooks Griffin.
