Charles Begley died at the home of his father, William Begley, on East Lincoln avenue at 6:30 o'clock Friday morning, July 4th, aged thirty-three years and eleven months.
The deceased was born in Livingston county, Illinois, in 1869 and came with his parents in 1876 to Sumner county, where the family settled on a farm near this city. Mr. Begley followed the occupation of a farmer, in spite of the lameness caused by a disease of the hip joint, from which he had suffered since boyhood. Last October he was hurt in a runaway near the Aetna mills, his crippled his being injured so that thereafter he was confined to his room. The immediate cause of his death was lung trouble. He had been a great sufferer for some weeks preceding, but was patient through it all and died in the faith of a Christian, his last words to his weeping family and relatives as he summoned them to his bedside to say good-bye, being "Meet me in heaven."
He leaves a wife and three children, Iva, aged twelve: Freddie, ten and Joseph, aged seven. His aged parents are both living and these brothers and sisters: Jake Begley, of Omaha, Nebraska; Nicholas, of this city, and George Wyant, of Corbin, a half brother; Mrs. May Gibb, of Miles City, Montana; Mrs. Rachael Finley, of Marcelline, Missouri; Mrs. Maggie Gardner, of Lonaconing, Maryland, and Miss Jennie Begley, of Cripple Creek, Colorado. Only the three brothers were able to be present at the funeral, which was held at the residence at 9:30 o'clock on Sunday morning, conducted by Rev. E.E. Stauffer, pastor of the Lutheran church. The remains were buried in the United Presbyterian cemetery near Mayfield, many sympathizing friends accompanying the cortege to the place of interment.
