Professional Football Player. For nine seasons (1968 to 1976), he played at the cornerback and safety positions in the National Football League with the St. Louis Cardinals and Houston Oilers. Born Robert Lee Atkins, Jr., he was raised in Georgia where he attended Luther Judson High School, prior to playing collegiate football at Grambling State University under the legendary Eddie Robinson. Selected by the St. Louis Cardinals during the 2nd round of the 1968 NFL Draft, he totaled 114 career regular season games. While with Houston in 1974, he produced a career-high 6 interceptions. After retiring from football, he coached football and women's basketball at Prairie View A&M.
