The two women were killed in an auto accident along with a third woman, Mrs. Alice Buck. The mishap took place between Slaton and Lubbock about 6:30 p.m. Friday. The car apparently went out of control and smashed head-on with another vehicle. Mrs. Buck was buried in Lubbock. She was making her home in Spur.
Mrs. Atkinson´s survivors include her husband, Don, Lubbock; three children, Christopher Lee, Donnell Marie and Debra Gail, all of Lubbock.
Others surviving include their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Fields, Spur, one brother, Johnny Thatcher, Spur; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Harris, Nebraska; Mrs. Alfred Rainbolt, Merkel; and Miss Dianne Thatcher, Spur.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Atkinson were Jerry McAlpin, Don Gannon, Carl George, Ernest Kearney, Olney Walker, and Don Weaver. Pallbearers for Miss Thatcher were Joe Howell, Roddy Bell, Mike Martin, Benny Hahn, Everett Martin and Elvis Wright.
Burial was in the Spur cemetery.
