Artie Smith Lawson, age 96, of Bose Road, Freeport died at 7:26 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2020 in Cleveland Clinic Justin T. Rogers Hospice Facility on Ridgewood Road in Akron. Born October 4, 1924 in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; she was a daughter of the late Jeff Smith and Emma Bice Smith. She worked at a Dickey-Grabler Company in Cleveland where she polished casket moldings and handles. Artie was an animal lover. She was obsessed with cats, dogs, turkeys, peacocks, burros, and anything else with fur or feathers that wanted fed. Her husband, Reece Melvin Lawson, Sr. died Wednesday, August 2, 2006. They were married May 28, 1945. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Cooper, a son, Reece Lawson, II Surviving are a son-in-law, David Cooper, five grandchildren: Greg Myers, Catherine (Michael) Page, Cynthia (Eric Garbe) Cooper, Reece (Paula) Lawson III, and Brett Lawson; and three great-grandchildren: Emma Page, Mikey Page, and Hallie Trumbull. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2020 in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High Street, Freeport. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2020 in the funeral home with Pastor Dave Koch officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport.
