The granddaughter of John Nelson Sansbury, a Veteran of the Confederacy. She was a loving and faithful wife, mother, and grandmother who gave generously of her time and talent. Lillian was a Member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, and a Member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She met her husband while working for the Red Cross during World War II.

Precious daughter of George Calhoun and Mertie Brown Sansbury
Beloved wife of Ralph Odell Ward
Loving mother of Glenn, Karl, Michael and Martha
Devoted grandmother of Jennifer, Melissa, Christopher, Amanda, Jeffrey, Kimberly and Kristy.

From Ralph, her husband of almost 60 years:

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
~Elizabeth Barrett Browning~

From her son, Karl:

You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see her or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she's gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
