After graduating from Shades Valley High School in 1959, he studied business at the University of Alabama, and graduated from Georgia State in 1965. He met Carol Reagan McKinstry in 1962 and they were married in1964. After graduation, he started as a warehouse worker for Elec-Tel Supply and retired as President in 1997. He was on the Board of Directors at Cobb EMC, and a member of the BYO club. After retiring, he and his wife lived for many years in Pensacola, FL. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph McKinstry and Marie Drake McKinstry. He is survived by his wife, Carol Reagan McKinstry; children, Lee McKinstry Jr, Kelly Smith (Robert Smith) , and Suzanne Guinn; five grandchildren, Katherine McKinstry, Lee McKinstry III, Anna Guinn, Emmeline Smith, and Lileanna Smith; and sister, Marlyn McGeever.
